From Mudskipper Blog
In a dry-land training routine yet?
If you are, this info may help you supplement what you're already doing.
If you aren't, it might be exactly what you need to get moving!
Nicole Harmon is the head age group coach at northern Virginia's "The FISH" swim program. She shared her Coronavirus Dryland Program via the American Swimming Coaches Association.
The program is a four-day cycle with rotating foci, including a recovery day. There's also a glossary of sorts at the end of the pdf, so you'll be up to speed with Nicole's terminology. Outstanding stuff!!!
Reminder: Our president, governor, county judge, and mayor have imposed tighter restrictions, further limiting our ability to get "out and about". Do as much as you can without getting in trouble with them!!
Here is today's suggestion:

Bay Villa
This was posted on Facebook today.
IMMEDIATE NEED: Bay Villa Nursing Home - 1) letters to the residents (they loved this and the letters have stopped coming) they need some joy right now. 2) ADULT coloring books and color pencils in individually wrapped ziplock bags 3) word search books or paperbacks in individually wrapped ziplock bags 4) dvds - PG. no violence. No sexual content. Older movies and musicals are great. 5) individually wrapped snacks - cookies, Rice Krispies , etc for the staff 6) happy artwork taped to the outside of windows Bay Villa residents are currently confined to their rooms because of the covid outbreak. They have little to no space so the activities above are what was suggested for their space. They are sad and need our love and attention. Please do what you can to love on our neighbors at Bay Villa. This is the perfect activity for the kids to help with. Drop off items in the box at the Bay Villa door. Also, the residents are unable to use the phone because they have to stay confined to their rooms. We are open to suggestions or if someone has a contact that can help us with this. Burner phones with prepaid minutes is a suggestion but if we can get other ideas, that would help as well. This is the type of thing we raise funds for, but I need to know which direction to go. Any help or suggestions on how to achieve communication for these residents and their families is much appreciated. You may message me Joanna Graham Holt or Dianne Jans Stone with any suggestions to bridge this communication gap for these families.

Pump Motor
The pool's pump motor was making some noise yesterday a.m.
I let Mark know that it sounded like it was going out.
The city posted a Facebook message that the pool will be closed today.
I've asked Mark to let me know about tomorrow's morning practice.
I will share any info on Monday a.m. practice on sportsYou if/when I hear from Mark.

Tubing
Just posted this on the high school blog:
While we're out of the water, y'all are doing those dry-land exercises on the March 13 post, right?
If you're doing resistance training at home and need some gear, here are a few links that might help:

I buy all our tubing from Lane Gainer. They're a small business that's very customer friendly!

Now What?
As long as the City of BC continues operating the pool, we'll keep our little group in the water.
Whether it's in addition to our water work, or in place of it, below is a link to swim exercises y'all should be working on OYO. Some will look very familiar, as this program is one I've taken things from these past few years.

Swimming ShAC
Q. What does it take to join our year-round USA Swimming program in Bay City?
A. Serious commitment and effort from parents, athletes, & coaches!
Here are a few quick notes on what our program will be, along with what it won't be:
- It won't be a summer league prep group, although swimmers are expected to compete for the summer team when we don't have a scheduling conflict.
- It will be demanding. Workouts will be two (2) hours long, six (6) days per week. When school's out, we'll train twice daily on weekdays for a total of eleven (11) sessions weekly.
- It won't be cheap. Initial registration, monthly fees, swim meet travel, practice gear, etc. will take a big bite out of the budget.
Start date for new ShAC-ers will be Monday, March 30th.
Expect:
- an initial registration fee of around $150 (all toward USAS & ShAC),
- a monthly pool use fee of $10 (normal monthly lap swim for City of Bay City),
- a monthly parent club fee of $15 (allows us to compete & practice w/ShAC),
- a monthly local club fee of $75 (coaching fees paid to Button*), and
- to purchase practice gear** and team shirts for around $150.
When you're ready to make the commitment, please send me an email
I'll send you:
- info on registering & setting up auto-pay via the ShAC site,
- link & password to Texas Swim Shop to purchase gear, and
- team shirt order info.
*Will not increase when we go from 6/week to 11/week
**Mesh bag, short fins, board, buoy, snorkel, paddles, & lightweight shoes

Updates
Final short course attendance standings:
MB - 86
OS - 75
MM - 72
LF - 38
This morning's Advocate should have swim results from Champs III. Mike says their policy is to post only top sixteen finishes. Hoping our local papers will go with everything I sent.
Rather than try to line up a group meeting for potential additions for our program, I'll work with those families at their convenience. Please have anyone interested send me an email.
I do not plan to attend the Aggieland April LC Invite (April 3-5), but Gilbert mentioned that it would be a very good meet for our kids. If you'll be attending, please let me know so I can help get entries in on time.
Here's a tentative schedule for the remainder of March. I'd like to get our kids back into the swing of two-hour practices. Taking some time off is important, but maintaining feel for the water and our fitness gains are also important. I'll email workouts when I won't be on deck. Kids will then be under supervision of lifeguard(s).
